LP Online™ Next Steps Reading is designed for families and professionals supporting learners with Down syndrome who are beginning to read single words or simple sentences—typically in early elementary grades (approximately ages 5–8).
This next-level literacy program builds on foundational skills and introduces strategies to strengthen reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and phonics-based decoding—all within a supportive, strength-based framework.

Building on Early Literacy Foundations for Children with Down Syndrome
Next Steps Reading is a targeted literacy program for children with Down syndrome who are already reading single words or simple sentences. This program builds on the foundational concepts introduced in Quick Start Reading, offering slightly more advanced instruction in fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and phonics-based word work.
Rooted in the science of reading and adapted from our Level 2 Learning Program Online materials, this class supports families and educators ready to move beyond the very beginning stages of reading instruction.
Recommended for learners who:

Can identify and read at least 10–20 sight words

Are beginning to read simple books or sentences

Benefit from continued work on decoding, fluency, and comprehension
This class is ideal for families, teachers, therapists, and administrators supporting early elementary learners (typically ages 5–8) who are ready to take the next step in their literacy journey.
