September’s LP Focus

September 2017 – Welcome to The Learning Program’s™ 2016-2017 Season! This year we have families and educators joining us locally, nationally and internationally.  However you have chosen to connect, thank you for joining our educational community. Each month we will use this blog to share session information (if your program started in October or your group has an earlier start date, your session topics may differ from those posted).

For Pre-K and Level 1 sessions, our September focus is vocabulary development and sight word acquisition. The math focus is rote counting and number identification. For Levels 2, 3, and 4, our September focus is comprehension. Level 2 spends time working on vocabulary development, predicting and using prior knowledge.  Levels 3 and 4 start with active comprehension strategies.  Special attention to comprehension is important for our kids because the ability to decode words can get ahead of understanding. The website of the month is www.starfall.com (although we also love www.morestarfall.com, which is a subscription site, but well worth the price – $35). The resources on this site vary and there is something for students of all levels.

If you are interested in joining the closed The Learning Program™ Facebook Group, please request to join from FB and send us an email at info@dsfoc.org telling us about your connection to the program.  With over 950 members, it is a useful way to supplement program sessions. If you are interested in joining our online community, it isn’t too late. You can learn more and register for LP Online™.

Happy Learning!
