March’s LP Focus

March 2016 – This month all LP levels focus on sounds and letters. While we are still working towards best practices in this area, a growing body of research supports the importance of including phonemic awareness and phonics activities when teaching reading to students with Down syndrome. Pre-K and Level 1 classes focus on noticing sounds in the environment, learning phonemes and linking sounds to letters. We also previewed a new learning resource to support students of all ages who are working on foundational phonics skills. Levels 2, 3 and 4 focus on using letter sounds to blend and segment words. We also walk through resources and strategies for teaching syllable and rhyme. There are interesting activities for learners in all levels. We look forward to your feedback!
